NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC Endorses Jennifer Williamson for Secretary of State in 2020!
PORTLAND, OR – Following yesterday’s announcement that Representative Jennifer Williamson will run for Oregon Secretary of State in the upcoming primary election, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC has voted to endorse her campaign in 2020. As former Majority Leader of the Oregon House of Representatives, Williamson led major advancements in reducing barriers to reproductive health services, implementing justice reforms, and championing equitable economic policies like paid family and medical leave to ensure all Oregonians have access to the opportunities they need to care for their families.
Grayson Dempsey, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC shared the news of the organization’s first endorsement of the 2020 political cycle:
“Representative Williamson’s work and dedication to serving Oregon families sets a new standard of what it means to be a champion for reproductive healthcare access. After sponsoring Oregon’s groundbreaking Reproductive Health Equity Act, Williamson joined NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s Board of Directors because she knew her work was not over – and we know that as Secretary of State, she won’t rest until every Oregonian has access to the support they need to fully participate in our democracy. Her commitment to equity and justice sets her apart in this critical race, and we are proud to support her candidacy in 2020.”
“From volunteering as a women’s clinic escort 25 years ago to writing Oregon’s Reproductive Healthy Equity Act, I’ve worked hard to guarantee access to abortion services and birth control for all women,” Representative Jennifer Williamson said. “I’m proud NARAL stood with me this year to pass the nation’s most progressive paid family leave law. Now, I’m honored to have NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC as my first major endorser in this race for Secretary of State. I’ll keep fighting with you every step of the way to protect reproductive freedom.”
This year NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC plans to mobilize its 13,000 members statewide to elect Williamson, in addition to a full slate of endorsed pro-choice champions. In 2018, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon was a key member of the coalition that engaged thousands of volunteers and contacted over a million voters on by knocking on 400,000 doors, making 65,000 phone calls and texting over 855,000 voters, successfully reelecting Governor Kate Brown and defeating Measure 106, a backdoor ban on abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC’s endorsement process will commence in November for other offices and a full slate of endorsed candidates will be announced in March of 2020.
